My Mission
My mission has always been to understand the controls of the sedimentary record and earth history. What can we learn from earth history for the NOW and for the FUTURE of mankind and planet earth ?
In view of ongoing, and multi-fold global crisis (environmental, economic, political, ressources, health, etc etc.), geology can make key contributions for a sustainable development of planet earth. For my whole life, I have been enthousiastically devoted to the study of geological strata and bodies (“geobodies”). I feel what is needed for sound studies is holistic awareness and integration: a) integration of scales: from microscopic to seismic-scale, b) integration of dimensions: from one-dimensional to three-dimensional analysis, c) integration of techniques: from sedimentological to geophysical methodology, d) integration of work spheres: combining outcrop, subsurface, laboratory and modelling work. e) integration of disciplines and expertise: with a proper appreciation of all voices, without defaming and censorhip, and without submission to powerful lobby influence. I want to serve a critically evaluating culture of science that is committed to fact-based honesty, balanced transparency, open communication and comprehensive humanity. |
